UTD Improves to 7-1 with Win at Sul Ross

ALPINE, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team won its fifth consecutive game with a 62-60 victory over Sul Ross State at the Gallego Center Saturday afternoon.

The Comets are off to a 7-1 start for the eighth time in program history and is the best beginning to a season since 2015-16.

The contest was tied 20-20 after the first quarter and the Comets led the Lobos (3-4) 33-30 at half. UTD shot 54.5 percent (12-of-22) in the second half to hold off Sul Ross. The visitors led 56-48 with 5:42 remaining in the contest, but the Lobos went on an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to 60-59 with just under a minute left. Sophomore guard Amanda Crowninshield sunk a pair of free throws with 20 seconds on the clock to put UTD up by three. A free throw from SRSU made the final score 62-60.

The Comets shot 48 percent (24-of-50) overall, 5-for-15 from outside and 9-for-15 at free throw line. They also recorded 37 rebounds, 16 assists, 20 turnovers, four blocks and seven steals.

The Lobos shot 33.3 percent (18-for-54) from the field, 6-for-10 from three-point range and 18-of-25 at the line with 33 rebounds, 11 assists, 14 turnovers, two blocks and 11 steals.

UT Dallas Notes
- Crowninshield led UTD with a season-best 15 points. She also had four rebounds and three steals while hitting a pair of three-pointers.
- Junior guard Trystan Clark recorded double-digit points for the sixth consecutive game, netting 14 to go with five boards.
- Senior Blythe Williams had 11 points and tied her season-high of eight points rebounds and dished out four assists.
- Cierra Trigg had nine points off the bench.
- Center Jordyn Hofmann blocked a career-best two shots.
- Talia Cloud added six points.
- Addy Self had five rebounds as well.

Sul Ross State Notes
- Marley Rokas led all players with 18 points, going 11-for-12 at the free throw line.
- Morgan Peralez had 14 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
- Cheyanne Bonilla recorded 11 points and six assists.
- Victoria Aguyo added seven points, eight boards and four steals.

Up Next
UTD will be off until Saturday, December 16 when they travel to Abilene, Texas and face McMurry at 1 p.m.
