ALEXANDRIA, La. - The American Southwest Conference champion UT Dallas earned three individual awards and had three players honored on the all-conference men's golf teams, the league announced Sunday.
The #13/14 Comets were led by Co-Coach of the Year
Cole Sondgeroth. In his first season, Sondgeroth guided UTD to its first ASC title and NCAA Championship Tournament appearance since 2003, winning the event by 15 strokes with a -14. UTD has broken almost every scoring record in the 2022-23 season.
Sophomore
Andrew Chow, of Coppell, Texas, earned All-ASC First Team honors after winning the individual medalist title in a playoff at the ASC Championship. Chow tied the school record for lowest single round and 54-hole score at the tournament, shooting a -6. He has a 75.10 scoring average, winning two tournaments.Â
Sophomore
Daniel Shofner, from Lewisville, Texas, was also on the First Team and is ranked #9 in the nation by Golfstat. He has a 73.73 scoring average and holds the school record with 65 birdies this season. Shofner has five top six finishes this season. He was an Honorable Mention in 2022.
Tyler Durden, from Austin, Texas, was the Freshman of the Year. He has a 74.59 scoring averaged with one tournament win and four top five finishes, including fifth place at the ASC Championship. Durden was also an Honorable Mention All-ASC selection.
Sophomore
Cole Wiley, of Kingwood, Texas, was selected as the Newcomer of the Year. He tied for third at the ASC Championship and has a 75.15 scoring average on the season.
The Comets will compete at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in Nicholasville, Ky. beginning May 16.
