BROWNWOOD, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team lost a five-set clash to Howard Payne at the Brownwood Coliseum Friday night. The host Lady Jackets (9-6) came away with a 20-25, 25-22, 22-25, 27-25, 15-9 victory over the Comets (5-6).
UTD limited HPU to just a .025 hitting percentage to win the first frame. The Lady Jackets rebounded with a .242 percentage in the second to knot up the match.
The Comets best set offensively came in the third when they connected on 17 kills and hit .200. UTD was up 19-11 in the fourth set before HPU fought back with a 16-6 run to force the deciding game. The Lady Jackets jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the fifth.
There were 21 total ties and nine lead changes during the match.
The Comets hit .153 with 64 kills, eight aces, six blocks and 75 digs. The Lady Jackets hit .158 on 51 kills, 12 aces, 12 blocks and 76 digs.

- Freshman outside hitter
Alina Strickler recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 13 digs.Â

Mari Hernandez came up with 26 digs.

Sydney Sabin posted a career-best with 37 with 10 digs and three aces. It was her third double-double on the year.

- Rylee Alexander led all players with six blocks.
- Brylee Awbrey hit .421 with 10 kills and four blocks.
