GEORGETOWN, Texas - A pair of free throws with three seconds left gave UT Dallas a 66-65 loss to Schreiner in the first game of the Paul Peak Classic at the Robertson Center Friday evening.
The Comets (2-3) led the Mountaineers (4-1) 35-33 at halftime. UTD extended its lead to nine points early in the second period, before Schreiner fought back to tie the game at 54-54 with 5:50 remaining.
Beau Cervantes hit a pair of free throws with 55 seconds left to put the Mountaineers up 64-61. The Comets answered with an
Austin Page bucket on the next possession, which was followed by a steal and basket by
Jordan Balderaz to put UTD up 65-64 with 23 seconds left. Kamden Ross hit the final free throws with three seconds left to give SU the victory.
The Comets shot 37.5 percent (24-for-64) from the field, 8-for-26 from three-point range and 9-for-14 at the line. They also recorded 39 rebounds, 12 assists, 16 turnovers, three blocks and 12 steals.
The Mountaineers converted 35.7 percent (20-of-56) of their shots, 5-for-19 from outside and 21-of-27 at the free throw line with 44 boards, nine assists, 20 turnovers, two blocks and seven steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- Page recorded his second career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also had five assists, two blocks and a pair of steals.
- Freshman guard
Peyton Dulin scored 12 points and had a season-high five steals.

Matthew Soto came off the bench for 11 points, hitting a trio of threes.
- Senior guard
Nick Donnelly added eight points with a block and a steal.
- Sophomore forward
Zach Spitzer scored four points with six rebounds.
- Balderaz finished with five points, two assists and four offensive rebounds.
Schreiner Notes
- Ross led all players with 20 points and 11 rebounds with three steals. He went 10-of-14 at the charity stripe.
- Dylan Mackey had 12 points, five boards and three assists.
- Cervantes finished with nine points and two steals.
- CJ Ward had seven points, five rebounds and two assists.
