Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Comets to Victory over Tigers

MARSHALL, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team concluded the regular season with a 67-63 American Southwest Conference victory at East Texas Baptist in Ornelas Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Comets (20-5, 12-4 ASC) finish the regular season in a tie for second in the league standings. They will be the third seed in the ASC Championship Tournament and host a Quarterfinal contest against sixth-seeded Ozarks at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will go on to the Semifinals on Friday, February 23 against Mary Hardin-Baylor in Abilene, Texas.

The Tigers (13-12, 9-7 ASC) built a 21-10 lead after the first quarter held a 42-36 advantage at halftime. UTD outscored ETBU 12-6 in the third to tie it the game at 48-48. 

The Comets shot 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from the field, while holding the Tigers to 20 percent (2-for-10). ETBU stayed in the game by going 10-for-13 at the line in the final period.

Tied at 61-61 with 2:55 remaining, UTD outscored the home team 6-2 down the stretch, five of which came from senior guard Blythe Williams.

For the game, UTD shot 39.6 percent (21-for-53) overall, 4-for-21 from outside and 21-of-24 at the free throw line. They also had 36 rebounds, eight assists, 13 turnovers, four blocks and 11 steals.

ETBU shot 33.3 percent (17-for-51) from the field, 4-for-13 from three-point range and 25-of-33 at the line with 35 boards, 11 assists, 15 turnovers and five steals.

UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2019-20.
- Williams recorded career-highs of 17 points and five steals. She also pulled down 10 rebounds for her first career double-double and dished out three assists.
- Forward Alex Bowman scored 16 points and grabbed seven boards.
- Sophomore guard Amanda Crowninshiled had 14 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
- Junior Cierra Trigg added nine points, three assists and two steals off the bench.
- Sophomore center Kyra Samules blocked a career-best three shots.
- Karrigan Parrott hit a three-pointer and came up with three rebounds.

East Texas Baptist Notes
- The Tigers will be the fifth seed in the tournament and play at #4 McMurry on Tuesday.
- Jayla Hall led all players with 18 points.
- Michaela James had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds to go with four steals.
- Payton Hicks added 10 points, four boards and four assists.
- Kadia Ward recorded eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.

UTD will battle Ozarks at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the ASC Championship Tournament Quarterfinals.
