AUSTIN, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team won its second match of the day in the Southwestern Fall Invitational, sweeping Concordia Texas 26-24, 25-22, 26-24 at the Concordia Fieldhouse Friday night.
The Comets (2-1) held off the Tornados (2-3) in a tightly contested match that featured 21 ties and 11 lead changes.
UTD held off the home team's rally in the first set, escaping 26-24. Down 22-21 in the second, the Comets rattled off four straight points to win by three.
In the third, Concordia led 23-18 but UTD went on a 8-1 run, including holding off a match point at 24-23. Sophomore
Bailey Schievelbein was responsible for three kills during the match-clinching rally.
The Comets hit .139 overall on 43 kills, four aces, six blocks and 76 digs. The Tornados were held to an .053 percentage with nine aces, nine blocks and 76 digs.
UT Dallas Notes
- Sophomore libero
Mari Hernandez tied a career-high with 30 digs. Her performance was the fourth-most digs in a three-set match in program history.
- Schievelbein led UTD with 11 kills.
- Middle blocker Laure See hit .333 with 10 kills and four blocks.
- Freshman outside hitter
Alina Strickler recorded her first double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.
- Both setters recorded double-doubles.
Sydney Sabin had 15 assists and 10 digs, while
Kira Braun posted 19 assists and 10 digs.
- UTD improved their all-time record against Concordia to 29-4.
Concordia Texas Notes
- Brooklynne Fitzgerald led the Tornados with 13 kills, hit .258 and recorded 15 digs.
- Faith Zoch added seven kills and 15 digs.
- Isabella Martinez came up with 20 digs.
- Camryn Parker was responsible for six blocks.
