ODESSA, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team secured a 73-69 victory over UT Permian Basin at The Falcon Dome in Lone Star Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The contest was virtually even throughout with 13 lead changes, 13 ties and the biggest lead of six points.Â
The Comets (7-8, 4-4 LSC) led 20-18 at the end of the first with the Falcons (11-6, 6-4 LSC) taking a 38-33 advantage into halftime. A three-pointer at the buzzer by UTPB's Madison Walters gave the Falcons a 52-50 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Tied at 61-61 with 3:49 remaining, UTD went on a 7-1 run to take control of the game, with a three-pointer by
Clara Paynter and baskets in the paint by
Umi Otsuka and
Danielle Oyakhire. The Comets held the Falcons off in the final minute by going 5-of-6 at the line to earn the four-point victory.
UTD shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the field, 3-of-18 from three-point range and 16-of-22 at the line with 36 rebounds, 18 assists, a season-low 14 turnovers, one blocked shot and eight steals.
UTPB shot 46.4 percent (26-of-56) overall, 5-of-23 from outside and 12-of-20 at the line with 33 rebounds, 17 assists, 15 turnovers, one block and nine steals.
UT Dallas Performances
- Paynter went 6-for-9 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers, for 14 points. She also dished out three assists.

Addy Self recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, a blocked shot and two steals.
- Otsuka finished with 12 points and four assists.
- Oyakhire came up with 12 points and nine rebounds.

- Walters finished with 18 points to go with four rebounds and two steals.
