RICHARDSON, Texas - For the second time this season, the UT Dallas women's basketball team defeated Western New Mexico after a 73-46 victory at the Activity Center Thursday night.
With the win, the Comets improve to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in the Lone Star Conference.
The game was close early with the home team leading the Mustangs (0-18, 0-11 LSC) 12-10 after the first quarter. UTD started to push away with a 26-18 lead at halftime, then heated up in the second half, shooting 51.5 percent (17-of-33) overall and 7-of-11 from three-point range. The Comets led by as many as 29 points late in the final period.
For the game, UTD shot 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the field, 10-of-23 from outside and 7-of-8 at the free throw line with 44 rebounds, 22 assists, 16 turnovers, three blocked shots, and 10 steals.
WNMU shot 27.8 percent (15-of-54) overall, 1-for-20 from three-point territory and 15-of-18 at the line with 33 rebounds, six assists, 20 turnovers, four blocks and six steals.
UT Dallas Performances
- Freshman guard
Kinley Mears recorded season-highs of 17 points, six rebounds and five steals with a pair of assists.
- Graduate student guard
Anna Yellen went 4-of-8 from three-point range for 12 points and registered four rebounds and two steals.
- Forward
Addy Self posted 11 points, five rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals.
- Senior
Raven Busby had eight points and three assists.
- Freshman
Clara Paynter led the Comets with seven rebounds.
- Sophomore guard
Emery Espinoza had three assists.
Western New Mexico Performances
- Teeya Gordon led the Mustangs with 17 points and went 9-of-10 at the free throw line.
- Jordan Sapien recorded nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Nadia Randall added nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks off the bench.
