MARSHALL, TX (03.10.09) – The UT Dallas softball team dropped its first American Southwest Conference East Division doubleheader of the season, falling 8-0 and 10-2 to the powerful East Texas Baptist team.
The Comets (2-8, 0-2) were "run-ruled" in both games, which ended after five innings. ETBU improved to 14-2 on the season and 2-0 in East Division play.
In the first game, UTD managed just three hits off ETBU starter Yates, who was 6-1 on the season. The game was a scoreless tie for the first two innings, and UTD trailed just 2-0 after four before the Tigers erupted for six runs in the bottom of the 5th off five hits and a Comet error.
The second game wasn't much better for the UTD squad. Again, the two teams battled without a run until the bottom of the 3rd inning when ETBU used six hits and 2 Comet errors to take a 5-0 lead. The Tigers added four more in the 4th with a five-hit inning.
Natalie Duran was a bright spot for the Comets, returning to fulltime duty after injury rehab and collecting three hits on the night.
