RICHARDSON, TX (03.28.09) – For the first time in several seasons, it looks like the UT Dallas men's tennis team may not be in attendance at the post-season American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.
UTD dropped a critical showdown with Mississippi College, 6-3, Saturday to fall back to fourth place in the ASC East Division standings, and would need to sweep its final three divisional matches to qualify. One of the remainig matches is against ASC powerhouse and division leader UT-Tyler.
Earlier in the week, UTD also dropped a non-conference match to Birmingham Southern, 6-3, winning just one of six singles matchups; but bounced back with a 5-4 win over Linfield (OR), 5-4 as Eric
Debusschere,
Dylan Patrick and
Derek DeCoste all picked up singles wins and UTD took two of the three doubles matches.
Against Mississippi, UTD again found itself in a hole after doubles when only the No. 3 team of
Donald Kasitinon and
Jay DeCoste picked up a win. DeCoste, playing in the No. 6 singles slot, then became one of only two singles players (along with Patrick
) to pick up a point as MC out-scored the Comets 4-2 in the singles.
Kasitinon was the only UTD singles player to pick up a victory against BSU, as UTD fell 5-1 in the singles. Kasitinon and Chris Roberts won their doubles match along Derek DeCoste and Debusschere.
