Comets Avenge Early Season Loss, Score Early & Often to Edge Texas Wesleyan, 6-2

THE RED-HOT COMETS REGISTERED 14 HITS ON MONDAY AFTERNOON

COLTON WOOD PITCHED THREE INNINGS IN RELIEF EN ROUTE TO POSTING HIS FIRST VICTORY ON THE MOUND THIS SEASON.
RICHARDSON, TX (04.12.10) – The Comets continued their torrid win streak to four games on Monday afternoon, clipping Texas Wesleyan, an NAIA opponent from the Red River Conference, by a score of 6-2 at the UTD Baseball Field.

UTD (19-11, 6-5) punched in a three-run first inning and never looked back in a game where three relievers—Colton Wood, Ryan Miner and Adam Spinn—took the reins from starter Mason Thompson, who shut the Rams down on three hits over the first three innings. Since Thompson only pitched three, the win was awarded to  Wood (1-0) , who pitched the middle three innings while surrendering just two hits.

"I thought all our pitchers threw well against a good-hitting team that has always has always given us trouble," UTD Coach Shane Shewmake said after his team won its sixth game in the last seven. "Offensively, we stayed focused and didn't let up throughout. It was a good team effort and, hopefully, will keep the momentum going for us."

Adam Hudec Action
UTD (19-11) never trailed in the game, scattering 14 hits and scoring in three of the first four innings. UTD scored all the runs it would need in the 1st inning. The middle part of the order - Randy Lorber, Jason Diemer, Joseph Killgore and Drew Hallford – strung together four straight hits and Adam Hudec's RBI single capped a three-run, five-hit outburst to open the game.

Killgore and Hallford delivered back-to-back singles to open the 3rd, then both came home on another Hudec single. UTD got its final run in the 4th when Garet Norton opened the inning with a double and scored on Jacob Starnes' first hit of the game.

TWU (20-18) got a single run in the 6th when Wood gave up the only two hits of his outing; then added another in the 9th off Adam Spinn before he was able to close the door.

The Comets are now 8-12 alltime against TWU, dating back to their inaugural 2002 season. This season, the Rams defeated UTD 9-8 back in a Feb. 24 game played in Fort Worth.
