Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (10.16.12) - The UT Dallas volleyball team took a break from American Southwest Conference play Tuesday night as the Comets swept local rival Austin College, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19, at the UTD Activity Center.
Taylour Toso and
Abbie Barth had 13 kills and 10 kills, respectively,
Christina Murphy and
Dana Hilzendager each pitched in nine kills as the Comets cruised to its seventh non-conference win of the season. UTD hit .225 as a team and got a solid 40-assist performance from freshman setter
Kayla Jordan as the Comets have now won 12 of its last 14 matches.
Toso and Barth each had five kills in the opening set as the Comets had to pull away late to earn a 25-19 win over the Lady Roos. Tied 19-19, UTD scored the final six points of the set, getting a pair of kills from
Halea Williams during the stretch, including the set-ending point. Jordan had 13 assists in the set.
The Comets' momentum continued into the second set, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. UTD scored five straight points on the service of Jordan and never looked back in the set. The Comets hit .262 for the stanza, getting four kills each from Toso and Barth while Jordan added 15 assists.
In the third and final set, the Comets had a hard time pulling away from AC as the two teams battled through nine ties before UTD used a three-point run to grab an 18-15 lead on a Lady Roo error. The Comets scored 10 of the last 14 points, getting two late kills from Murphy, to ice the win. Murphy, Toso and Hilzendager each had four kills in the set while Jordan had 12 assists and a pair of service aces.
The Comets return to action Friday night as they host Mississippi College in ASC East Division play. Game time is 7 p.m.
