Box Score 3 MARSHALL, TX (03.30.14) - Just days after raising their record above the .500 mark with a non-conference sweep of Westminster (MO), the UT Dallas Comets were brought back down to earth, dropping all three games in a weekend series at No. 9-ranked East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference play.
UTD (12-14, 7-14 ASC) took dropped both ends of doubleheader to the Tigers Saturday, 5-2 and 9-0, before giving up a walk-off home run in the 8th inning in Sunday's 3-2 defeat.
The Comets take another quick break from ASC play Tuesday afternoon with a 4 p.m. home doubleheader with the University of Dallas.
Â
SATURDAY GAME 1: ETBU 5, UTD 2 The Comets actually took an early lead on the 9
th-ranked Tigers when sophomore catcher Ally Hudec slammed her second home run of the season over the left field wall. The shot came with two outs in the second inning.
But the lead was short-lived. With two outs in the bottom of the inning, the Tigers got the run right back with a single, stolen base and RBI hit to tie the score.
Things unraveled in the third, though. A hit batter, then four straight hits and a wild pitch allowed four runs to cross the plate and the Tigers were up 5-2. UTD threatened in the fourth, but went three-up, three-down in the fifth and sixth inning before finally scoring again in the seventh.
A leadoff single up the middle by
Jonelle Feikis set Hudec up for her second RBI of the game. But ETBU turned a double play to end the inning and walked way with the win.
Freshman
Sara Davison took the loss, but struck out five for UTD.
SATURDAY GAME 2: ETBU 9, UTD 0 (5 INN)The Comets could not solve senior pitcher Shelby Parker (10-4), who held the team to just one hit while her teammates built up a 9-0 advantage.
UTD freshman
Lauren McLeod gave up just 4 hits in her start, but three of those were home runs and ETBU had chased McLeod after just 1.2 innings. ETBU got 3 runs on two hits (including a home run) in the first, the four more (including two HRs) in the second.
Meanwhile, Parker put down eight straight Comet hitters before
Morgan Anderson got the first UTD hit of the game in the third.
The Comets also picked up a pair of hits in the fourth, but left both runners stranded before ETBU again shut them down in the fifth.
SUNDAY GAME: ETBU 3, UTD 2 (8 INN)The Comets grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the 7th inning on an
Aly Hudec run only to watch ETBU tie the game in the bottom of the frame and complete the sweep with a one-out homer by ETBU's Lacey Lindsey.
UTD opened the scoring in the top of the 1st when
Avery McHugh came home on an RBI groundout by Tayloro Nabors. The Tigers tied the game in the 2nd with an RBI double by Jayme Perez.
Davison (1-6) was handed her second loss of the weekend, striking out six in a complete-game performance. McHugh was 2-for-4.
