Box Score 2 RICHARDSON, TX (08.30.14) - The UT Dallas volleyball team bounced back from its first loss of the season Friday night with a pair of Saturday victories to close out the UTD Labor Day Tournament. The Comets held off Southwestern, 3-1, to open the day and rallied for a 3-2 win over The University of. Dallas.
The Comets finished the weekend 3-1 and return to action Friday as they start play in the Austin College Invitational in Sherman. Over the weekend, UTD will face Texas Lutheran, Hendrix, St. Thomas and host Austin College before returning home.
UTD 3, Southwestern 1To grab the first win of the day, the Comets had to rally back after dropping the second set, finishing off Southwestern with a convincing 25-17 win in the final frame. UTD won the first set by an identical 25-17 score, but dropped a 25-21 battle in Set 2 before gutting out a 25-21 win in the third set.

Holyn Handley joined teammate
Taylour Toso in generating most of the offense. Handley led the team with 14 kills along with 12 digs. Toso had 12 kills and 24 digs on defense.

Allie Harman and
Emma Wallbrown combined for 26 additional kills as the Comets hit .216 for the match.
Defensively, however, UTD limited the Pirates to a .146 success rate on the attack and earned 18 points off blocks. Toro was a force up front with six assisted and one solo block. Toso was in on five blocks.
Kayla Jordan dominated the assist category for the match, adding 43 to her season total over the four sets. She also had three service aces.
The Comets dominated the opening set on their way to a 25-17 win, finishing off the Pirates with an 11-4 run. In the second set, Southwester jumped out to an early 9-3 lead. UTD was able to cut the lead down to 15-13, but couldn't get any closer as SU ran off with a 25-21 win. The third set was tight throughout before UTD pulled away late to claim the 25-21 win. The Comets then finished off the match with a strong 10-2 finish in the final set, racing away with another 25-17 win.
UTD 3, U. Dallas 2The Comets found themselves in an early hole and had to dig for the rest of the match before finally earning the victory a marathon match that lasted over two hours.
U. Dallas opened the contest with a stunning 25-21 win over the Comets as the Crusaders were hungry for their first win of the young season. However, UTD bounced back with a 25-18 win in the second set to even the match. UD responded with a 25-22 win in the third set to force the Comets to win the final two sets to earn the victory. Down 24-21 in the fourth set, UTD began its charge and eventually claimed a 32-30 win in the stanza. The Comets then hit .562 in the fifth and final set to collect a 15-12 win over UD.
Harman led the way with a match-high 20 kills while Toso finished the night with 17 kills and Handley had 14 kills. Harman hit .300 for the match, adding four digs and a solo block. Handley finished with a "double-double", adding 15 digs. Jordan ended the match with 58 assists, along with 14 digs. Sophomore libero
Mary Speights led the Comets with 26 digs.
UTD finished the match hitting .246 as a team, compared to just .203 by the Crusaders.
