Box Score ABILENE, TX (09.12.14) - After grabbing two close victories in the opening sets of the night, the UT Dallas volleyball team needed to erase a big lead in a decisive fifth set to stay perfect in American Southwest Conference play after a 3-2 win at Hardin-Simmons.
The five-set - 28-26, 25-20, 26-28, 18-25, 16-14 - win by UTD (now 8-2, 2-0 ASC) ended a 52-match home court win streak for the Cowgirls (1-4, 0-1 ASC) that dated back to 2006.

MICHELLE TOROThe Comets led most of the way in opening the night with 28-26 and 25-20 wins in the first two sets before dropping the next two sets, 26-28 and 18-25, as the Cowgirls tied up the match at 2-2. In the fifth and deciding set, UTD fell behind 4-10 before rallying with a 10-4 run to tie the score at 14-14. Senior
Taylour Toso and freshman
Allie Harman then capped off the victory with back-to-back kills to claim the fifth set, 16-14.
The Comets hit only .168 as a team, but scored when they needed to. Toso led the way with a 25-kill night while
Michelle Toro and
Holyn Handley added 10 kills each. UTD started hit .289 in its second set victory, and .226 in the final set while HSU managed just five kills with three errors (.077). The Cowgirls hit .211 on the night, led by Corrie Reeder with 19 kills. Hannah Hornsby added 17.
UTD picked up 104 digs in the match, paced by 22 from libero
Bethany Werner.
Meredith Crawford and
Kayla Jordan each had 17 while Toso added 15. Toso, Crawford and Aimee Wilhelm all nailed down three service aces. Jordan had 48 assists in the five-set win.
The Comets travel to Brownwood Saturday for a 2 pm match with Howard Payne.
