Box Score 2 SHERMAN, TX (09.05.14) - The UT Dallas volleyball team opened the Austin College Classic Friday with a split against a pair of non-conference NCAA Division III opponents.
The Comets (now 4-2) opened the day with a quick 3-0 loss to former American Southwest Conference rival Texas Lutheran before picking up a second 3-1 win over Hendrix in as many weeks. UTD wraps up the event Saturday with matches against St. Thomas (1 p.m.) and host Austin College (5 p.m.).
Texas Lutheran 3, UTD 0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-12)The Comets struggled offensively, hitting just .076 as a team, as they fell to Texas Lutheran in just over an hour. UTD managed 33 kills in the short three-set match while committing 22 errors.
Holyn Handley led the Comets with 10 kills while
Meredith Crawford finished with seven kills and a team-high 17 digs.
Kayla Jordan had 22 assists before sitting out the third set.
UTD 3, Hendrix 1 (25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 30-28)Crawford led three Comets in double-digit kills as UTD used a 30-28 win in the fourth set to earn a hard-fought 3-1 win over Hendrix to close Friday's action.
UTD improved its offense after Friday's rough outing against Texas Lutheran by hitting .205 against the Warriors. Crawford collected 18 kills while
Michelle Toro added 13 kills and Handley had 11 kills. Jordan finished with 48 assists while
Bethany Werner led the Comets with 19 digs.
