Box Score 2 SHERMAN, TX (09.06.14) - The UT Dallas volleyball team cruised to a pair of 3-0 wins Saturday as the Comets closed out the Austin College Classic.
The Comets (now 6-2) opened the day with a sweep of NAIA-foe St. Thomas, 25-18, 25-13, 25-13, and then trounced tournament host Austin College, 26-24, 25-12, 25-14, in the final match of the event. UTD returns to action Tuesday night as the Comets host East Texas Baptist at 7 p.m. in their American Southwest Conference.
UTD 3, St. Thomas 0The Comets hit .380 as a team as they sailed to a 25-18, 25-13, 25-13, over the Celts, committing just five errors in the match.
UTD committed just five errors on the match, including none in the second set, as it improved to 2-1 so far on the weekend. Senior
Taylour Toso led the way with 11 kills along with seven digs, three aces and a pair of blocks in the dominant team performance.
Holyn Handley finished with eight kills while
Meredith Crawford seven kills. Setter
Kayla Jordan controlled the Comet attack with 35 assists, averaging nearly 12 assists per set. Handley and libero
Bethany Werner each finished with a team-high 10 digs.
UTD 3, Austin College 0Toso finished one kill shy of the program record in a three-set match as she tallied 18 kills in the Comets sweep of Austin College, 26-24, 25-12, 25-14. Toso had 18 kills with just two errors in 32 swings while adding eight digs, two assists, a block and an ace. Crawford ended the match with 11 kills along with a match-high 18 digs. Jordan had 38 assists, nearly 13 assist per set.
As a team, the Comets hit .304 as a team and finished with 51 total kills in the three-set match, six shy of the program's team three-set record. UTD finished with six blocks and five aces as a team.
