UTD's Marci Sanders To Assist National Team At Pan American Cup

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. (06.11.15) - UT Dallas head volleyball coach Marci Sanders has proven to be one of the top coaches in NCAA Division III since starting the Comet program just over a decade ago. Sanders will take her talents to the U.S. Women's National Team later this month as she will serve on the staff for the Women's Pan American Cup, June 13-21, in Lima, Peru.

Sanders started the UTD volleyball program in 2004 and has led the Comets to a pair of American Southwest Conference titles and three trips to the NCAA D-III National Tournament. In her 11 seasons at the helm, Sanders has built a 252-101 (.714) all-time mark with winning campaigns each of the past nine years.

The Pan American Cup is a 12-team tournament with squads competing for spots into the 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix. Team USA, winners of two of the last three editions of the intercontinental tournament, will play in Pool A that includes Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Puerto Rico at Miguel Grau Coliseum. Pool B has defending champions Dominican Republic facing Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Peru and Uruguay at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum.

David Hunt will serve as head coach for the team at the Pan American Cup. Nicole Lawlor and Jonathan Newman-Gonchar will be assistant coaches on the staff, while Carol Williams will take the role of technical coordinator. Other team staff include Sanders as team manager and Jamie Rodgers as athletic trainer.

Team USA opens the Pan American Cup on June 13 against Puerto Rico at 7 p.m., followed by Colombia on June 14 at 3 p.m. The Americans challenge Costa Rica on June 15 at 3 p.m., followed by Mexico on June 16 at 5 p.m. The U.S. concludes pool play on June 17 versus Argentina at 7 p.m.
