AUSTIN, TX (04.03.16) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team collected its fourth consecutive win Sunday afternoon with an 8-1 decision over Concordia Texas in American Southwest Conference West Division play.
The Comets (now 4-1, 3-0 ASC) moved one win closer to hosting the ASC Tournament for the first time in program history after sweeping doubles play and earning five singles victories against CTX. UTD returns to action Friday when the Comets host McMurry at 2 p.m.
UTD cruised through doubles play unscathed all three duos picked up victories. Top-flighed
Christian Duarter and
Alberto Hernandez held off CTX's Gabriel Borunda/Iosua Malaki, 8-4.
Hrudhay Ravula and
Mario Jelev earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles while
Ryan Morton and
Kenneth Sweeney won 8-5.
In singles play, Hernandez outlasted CTX's Malaki in a marathon three-set match. Hernandez won the opening set against Malaki, 7-5, before falling 6-3 in the second set. Hernandez then downed Malaki, 10-7, in the tie-break to earn the victory and improve to 4-1 in singles play this season.
Duarte (6-0, 6-3), Morton (6-0, 6-1), Jelev (6-1, 6-2) and
Kalee Kuhn (6-4, 6-0) each earned straight-set wins at No. 3-6 singles, respectively. The Comets' only loss of the afternoon came at No. 1 singles as Ravula was edged by CTX's Borunda, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
