RICHARDSON, TX (02.17.21) - Due to the record-low temperatures as well winter storms and several power outages across the area, UT Dallas has canceled or postponed multiple athletic events both this week and next week.
On Tuesday, the American Southwest Conference postponed conference competition scheduled Feb. 16-21. The Directors of Athletics and Conference staff were asked to assess options in rescheduling events. Those ASC competitions postponed include the ASC Cross Country Championships and league games in basketball, football, soccer and volleyball.
Below is a sport-by-sport listing of those events that were affected by the winter weather.
BASKETBALL
Per Tuesday's ASC announcement, UTD's road basketball games at McMurry (2/18) and Hardin-Simons (2/20) have been postponed. The league is looking at options to reschedule all conference basketball games from this weekend.
UPDATED 2/18/21 - This weekend's postponed ASC men's and women's basketball games have been rescheduled and the 2020-21 championship tournament format modified. The games that were slated for Feb. 18 will be played Mar. 4 while games originally set Feb. 20 will now be played Mar. 6. The ASC Men's and Women's Basketball Championship Tournaments have been moved a week later and feature a modified bracket format. The top four seeded teams in each division qualify for the eight-team field. Four quarterfinal games will be played Mar. 10 in an intra-division format for both the men's and women's opening round. The number 1 and 2 seeds in each division will host the number 3 and 4 seeds, respectively, within their division with games played at the higher seed. Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals on Mar. 14 with the title game scheduled Mar. 15. The women's semifinals and final will be hosted by the highest remaining West Division seed and the men's semifinals and final hosted by the highest remaining East Division seed.
SOCCER
The Comet home soccer games with Louisiana College scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20, have been postponed due to winter weather combined with field conditions. The Comets will now host Louisiana College on Monday, Mar. 8, at the UTD Soccer Field. The men will open the doubleheader with a 12 p.m. game with the Wildcats with the women's teams scheduled to play at 2:30 p.m. that day.
In addition, last Saturday's road games at LeTourneau that were also canceled due to weather have been rescheduled. The Comets will visit LETU on Wednesday, Mar. 10, with the women's game at 5 p.m. and the men's contest at 7:30 p.m. in Longview.
VOLLEYBALL
Friday's (Feb. 19) season-opening home doubleheader with LeTourneau has been postponed due to unsafe travel conditions. The Comets will now host LeTourneau in a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 6.
CROSS COUNTRY
The ASC Cross Country Championships scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20, will not be run as scheduled. The league is looking into options to hold the championships some time next week. Stay tuned for updates.
BASEBALL
The Comets' three-game non-conference home series with McMurry this weekend (Feb. 19-20) has been altered due to field conditions caused by standing snow on the baseball field. UTD and McMurry will now play a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Monday, Feb. 22, at The Depot at the Cleburne Station in Cleburne. Next Tuesday's (Feb. 23) road game at Arlington Baptist has yet to be affected by the weather, but please stay tuned for updates.
SOFTBALL
Next Tuesday's (Feb. 23) home doubleheader with Texas A&M-San Antonio has been canceled as they UTD Softball Field will not be in playable condition due to standing snow. No information on a possible reschedule is available at this time.
TENNIS
The UTD home tennis matches with the University of the Southwest on Wednesday, Feb. 17, have been moved to the following Wednesday, Feb. 24. Those matches will be played at 11 a.m. at the UTD Tennis Courts.
