RICHARDSON, TX (06.30.21) - A pair of two-time All-Americans have been named the recipients of the 2020-21 UT Dallas Student-Athletes of the Year as seniors
Kathy Joseph and
Dimitrius Underwood were honored Wednesday as the 18th annual award winners.

Joseph becomes just the second women's tennis player to earn the honor while Underwood picks up his second career award, also earning the honor after the 2018-19 academic year.
A native of Williston, Vt., Joseph became the first two-time ITA All-American in Comet women's tennis history after advancing to the semifinals in both singles and doubles at the NCAA Division III Individual Championships this spring. She helped lead the Comets to their second-straight and third all-time American Southwest Conference title after sparking the squad to another ASC divisional crown. Joseph posted a 15-3 singles record this spring, all at No. 1, while setting a new program high mark for doubles victories with a 16-3 doubles record, also all at No. 1. She was named the ASC East Most Valuable Player, giving her a third divisional MVP distinction of of her career. Joseph was named the ASC West MVP in 2018 and 2019. She was a four-time first team all-division selection for the Comets and was honored as Academic All-ASC four times over her career. She closed her career as the Comets' all-time record holder in singles (51) and doubles (52) victories. The Comets posted a 12-4 overall record and won a third straight division title with a 4-0 ASC East mark.
Freshman golfer Karen Alvarez was second in the women's voting while senior basketball standout Raenett Hughes, last year's winner, finished third.
A native of Mesquite, Underwood returned to the hardwood after missing the 2019-20 season due to injury and claimed All-American honors for the second time in his career while leading the Comets to an 18th straight postseason appearance. Underwood claimed second team All-America recognition from D3hoops.com as a senior after being tabbed the ASC East's Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year this season. After the 2018-19 campaign, he was named first team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). A three-time All-ASC and first team All-ASC East honoree over his career, Underwood closed his tenure with the Comets ranked second all-time in scoring with 1,678 career points. He also finished his career ranked second all-time in rebounds (814) and steals (188) and fourth in assists (317). Underwood recorded two 'triple-double' performances this season, giving him a school-record four such outings over his career. He closed his final season averaging 19.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game. The Comets closed the 2020-21 season with a 9-5 overall record and a 7-4 mark in ASC East play.
Senior baseball player Jacob Perry was second in the men's voting while senior golfer Ryan Kropp was third.
