NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - UT Dallas sits in 23rd place after the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Comets shot 304 (+16) and are 20 shots off of leader Saint John's (Minn.). There are 43 teams in the championship field.
Sophomore Danile Shofner and freshman
Tyler Durden lead UTD with both shooting a +3 75 and are tied for 78th.
Andrew Chow and
Cole Wiley are tied for 111th with a 77 (+5) and
Joseph Park is tied for 130th with a 78 (+6).
Shofner, who was named All-Region earlier in the day, made two birdies with 12 pars. Durden and Park each made three birdies, while Chow and Wiley sunk two apiece.Â
Brian Hanson of Emory and Bobby Beaubien of Illinois Wesleyan are tied for the individual lead with a 67 (-1).
Pairings for round two will be announced later Tuesday evening. The Comets will need to be in the top 18 to make the cut for the final two rounds on Thursday and Friday.
