RICHARDSON, Texas - The University of Texas at Dallas continues its transition to NCAA Division II after receiving approval to move ahead to the final year of its two-year provisional membership, the NCAA Division II Membership Committee and Management Council announced on Thursday, July 10. The decision is effective on September 1.
The Comets began the transition process in the summer of 2023 to be a full Division II member on September 1, 2026. They officially joined the Lone Star Conference on July 1.
The NCAA visited the campus in the spring to assess UTD's readiness in various areas, including institutional control, sports programs, student well-being, staffing, compliance monitoring, recruiting, eligibility, rules education, financial aid, self-reporting, and procedures.
UTD sponsors 17 intercollegiate athletics programs that will be playing under the LSC banner – baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field and volleyball. Comet teams and individuals are immediately eligible for LSC regular season championships and awards, but will be ineligible for postseason conference tournaments in sports where the conference receives an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II championship.
