DENTON, Texas - The UT Dallas track & field teams recorded four school records on the opening day of the Bill Schmidt Invite at the Mean Green Soccer and Track & Field Stadium on Friday.
Freshman
Blake Rippy broke a four-year-old long jump record, clearing 6.59 meters (21 ft.-7.5 in.) and placing seventh. He was also the Comets' top finisher in the 200 meters in ninth with a time of 21.63 seconds.
Andrew Hopkins finished second in the 1,500 meters in 4:04.32 and junior
Frank Douglas had a time of 10:04.55 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing third.Â
The other men's record came on
Nick Hofer's high jump of 1.93 meters (6 ft.-4 in.), placing fifth.
For the UTD women, freshman
Saniya Bosby tied her own school record with a high jump of 1.65 meters (5 ft.-5 in.), finishing fourth. She also took fifth with a long jump of 5.38 meters (17 ft.-8 in.).Â
Freshman
E'Mon Mason also broke her own school record in the 200 meters with a fifth-place time of 24.82 seconds. Freshman
Michelle Bakare was just behind in 24.83 seconds.
Senior
Abby Valdez placed 13th in the 1,500 meters with a personal best of 5:21.04.
The Comets will wrap up the meet at UNT on Saturday.
