CANYON, Texas - UT Dallas set six new school records and tied another, during the second day of the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Comet men sit in seventh place out of 12 teams with 18 points. The women are tied for 11th with two other squads with no points.
UTD Men's Highlights
- Sophomore
Nick Hofer and junior
JD Koller picked up eight more points for the Comets by placing fourth and sixth in the decathlon, respectively.
- Hofer scored 5,482 points, highlighted by the second-fastest 1,500-meter time in 4:49.42. He also broke the school record in the pole vault, clearing 3.65 meters (11 ft.-11.75 in.).
- Koller recorded a personal-best score of 5,224 points. He won the javelin with a new school record 51.11 meters (167 ft.-8 in.), shattering the old record by nearly 13 feet. Koller also was second in the discus at 32.61 meters (107 ft.).
- Freshman
David Vasquez qualified for Saturday's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.49 seconds in the preliminaries. His time was the seventh-fastest on Friday.
- Junior
Frank Douglas ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:02.16, finishing ninth.
- Freshman
Jay Hicks was 10th in the 100-meter dash prelims, tying his own record of 10.47 seconds.
- Freshman
Blake Rippy took 13th with a long jump of 6.62 meters (21 ft.-8.75 in.).
- Freshman
Liam Simmons shaved .31 seconds off the school record in the 400 meters, placing 14th in 48.72 seconds.
- Graduate student
Jackson Tucker wrapped up his career with a discus throw of 36.58 meters (120 ft), placing 21st.
Comet Women's Highlights
- Freshman
Saniya Bosby was the top finisher of the day for the UTD women. She took 10th with a school record long jump of 5.73 meters (18 ft.-9.75 in.).
- Freshman
Abby Ellisor bested the school record in the 400 hurdles by .56 seconds, placing 15th in 1:05.14.
- Senior
Chisom Mbah broke her own school record with a discus throw of 35.08 meters (115 ft.-1 in.), finishing 17th.
- Freshman
Michelle Bakare finished 18th in the 100-meter dash prelims in 12.25 seconds.
- Freshman
E'Mon Mason ran the 400 prelims in 57.22 seconds, finishing 19th.
Up Next
The final day of the championships will start on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the field events. The running portion of the schedule will start at 5:30 p.m.
