UTD Still Looking For First Win Over Austin College After Dropping 5-Set Match

Comets Fall After Leading Match 2-0

JESSICA NASSAU HAD ONE OF HER BIGGEST NIGHTS OF THE YEAR, PUTTING DOWN 16 KILLS.
Box Score RICHARDSON, TX - The UT Dallas volleyball team missed out on its best shot in program history of knocking off regional power Austin College Tuesday night. The Comets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two sets, but could not finish the deal as the Kangaroos rallied for a 25-27, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-9 non-conference victory.

UTD, which fell to 13-6 overall, had battled back in each of the first two sets after trailing early, rallying from a 25-24 deficit in the first set, then coming back from a 19-16 disadvantage in the second set. But the Kangaroos (12-8) jumped out in front early in the third set and cruised to the 25-18 win to stay alive.

The fourth set was a nip-and-tuck affair, though the Comets led early 13-9. The score was tied at 22-22 on a kill by Aubrey Bratcher, but AC came up with the final three points to take the set, 25-22.

UTD then fell in a 5-0 hole to open the fifth and deciding set, but was able to tie the score at 7-7 with a series of blocks. The Kangaroos, however, picked up the next five points off two kills, a service ace and two UTD attack errors to make it 12-7 and the Comets could not recover.

Kyleigh Irish, who was named the ASC Player of the Week earlier in the day, had a 17-kill night and added 21 digs. Jessica Nassau and Patricia Allen combined for 31 kills. Niki Calverley finished with 58 assists.

UTD returns to American Southwest Conference action Friday when the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor visits the UTD Activity Center at 7 pm.
