Box Score CLARKSVILLE, AR - The UTD women's soccer team opened up American Southwest Conference play the same way it ended the regular season last year - pitching a shutout in a 2-0 road victory at the University of the Ozarks.
UTD, which had 14 shutouts last season, dominated the ball the ball in their conference opener, outshooting the Eagles, 24-2, with 12 shots on goal. Comet goalkeeper
Andrea Jones did not have to deal with a single save during the afternoon match.
The Comets (3-2-2, 1-0-0) got the game-winning goal from sophomore
Haley Renfro from Houston, who scored on a penalty kick just before the end of the first half to give UTD a 1-0 lead. Though the Comets didn't need any more, freshman
Leah Bowyer (pictured above) got her second goal of the season with just 6:39 left in the match on an assist from
Kristina Kinner.
With the loss, Ozarks fell to 2-5-0, 0-1-0 on the season. The Comets will play their first conference games at home next weekend when Louisiana College and Mississippi College come to campus.
