RICHARDSON, TX (02.22.11) - The UT Dallas softball team got two strong pitching performances and saw a school record tied as the Comets swept non-conference rival Austin College Tuesday night at the UTD Softball Field. UTD took the opener 5-3 and held on for a 6-2 win in the nightcap.

Caysie Norum hit a pair of home runs to lift the Comets to a 5-3 win to start the day.
The Comets opened the scoring in the top of the first inning Norum's first home run , a solo shot with two outs, to give UTD a quick 1-0 lead. The Comets then added to their lead as they took advantage of an AC error in the bottom of the third inning after a single by Norum. Sophomore
Brittanie Knowles advanced to third when Norum laced a single through the right side of the infield at soon after scored on an errant throw by the Roos as they tried to throw out Norum at second.
UTD added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a three-run home run by Norum as she took a change up over the rightfield fence. It was Norum's third long ball of the season as she recorded just the third multi-home run game in the history of the Comet program. This is the second time that Norum has had two homers in a single game, also accomplished against Hardin-Simmons last season. Former Comet Carter Ryan also had two homers against East Texas Baptist in 2007.
AC got all its offense in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of a Comet error and getting a two-run home run from Stefanie Faith, her third of the season.
In the circle, Foust improved to 2-0 on the season after her second complete game in as many starts. Foust gave up three earned runs on four hits. She fanned 11 Roos while issuing just one walk. Norum ended the game 3-for-3 with four RBI while sophomore
Stephanie Harris was 2-for-3.
GAME 2- UTD 6, Austin College 2 (BOX SCORE)
In the late game, it was freshman right-hander
Alyssa Fincher (1-0) that recorded the complete-game victory as she fanned four Roos while giving up just two earned runs and two hits.
The Comets (now 3-1) against opened the scoring in the first inning as Harris plated Norum and senior
Makesa Richey. AC (now 3-5) answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but UTD responded in the bottom of the frame when
Shelby Stephens used a pinch-hit double to deep center to plate Harris from first base. The Comets then closed out the game in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore
Anna Knutson led off with a pinch-hit double and was followed by back-to-back home runs by Stephens and sophomore
Rachel Riley.
Stephens ended the game 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored while Harris was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Richey was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Norum ended the nightcap 1-for-1 with three walks.
The Comets return to action this weekend for their first road games of the season. UTD will travel to Belton Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Mary Hardin-Baylor.
