Comet Women Keep Eye On Post-Season Prize With 3-0 Win At Ozarks

COMETS NEED JUST ONE MORE WIN TO CLINCH ASC TOURNAMENT BERTH

SOPHOMORE SARAH BORG SCORED UTD'S FIRST GOAL & ASSISTED ON ANOTHER.
Box Score CLARKSVILLE, AR (10.20.12) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team maintained its position among the American Southwest Conference's top six teams Saturday afternoon, blanking The University of the Ozarks, 3-0.

Krysta Howard Action
The win improved the Comets' overall record to 9-4-1 on the season, but more importantly, kept the Comets within reach of a top-tier finish in conference with a 6-3-1 ASC mark. Ozarks fell to 1-15, 1-9 on the season.

UTD needs just one more point in the standings, so could conceivably clinch a post-season berth with one more win or tie. The Comets wrap up their ASC regular season schedule next weekend at home, hosting Louisiana College (4-9-2, 1-7-2) Thursday evening and Mississippi College (12-3-1, 8-2) Saturday afternoon at home.

UTD is tied with East Texas Baptist (6-5-1 ASC) in the points column with 19 points based on six wins (3 points each) and a tie (1 point), but the Lady Tigers have already completed their regular season schedule. Howard Payne (5-5-0) is the only other team that could conceivably sneak into the top six. Only the top six teams in the conference race qualify for the post-season ASC Championship Tournament.
Saturday, the Comets dominated the game, allowing just two shots from the Lady Eagles all afternoon long. Meanwhile, UTD launched 19 attempts at the Ozarks goal, forcing eight saves from UO keeper Mary Eoff. UTD's Brittany Best had to make just one save during her first-half shift. Macaire Ament saw no shots in the second period.

Jeri Mills Action
UTD got the only goal it would need just 5:45 into the match when Sarah Borg scored just her second goal this season with a header off a serve from Alissa Burch. That 1-0 score stood until midway (73:36) through the second half when Borg picked up an assist, crossing a ball into the box that Krysta Howard redirected for her first goal of the season. Less than two minutes later (75:30), UTD put the game completely out of reach with a Jeri Mills goal in front of the goal on a feed from Eboni Udenze.
