Morgan Kilgore Scores 29 As Comets Cruise Past ETBU, 83-59

Box Score MARSHALL, TX (01.11.14) - Senior forward Morgan Kilgore finished just a point shy of her second 30-point game of the season Saturday as she sparked the UT Dallas women's basketball team to an 83-59 road win over East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference play.

The Comets (now 10-1, 7-1 ASC) continued one of their best starts in program history as they rolled off their fifth straight win after suffering their lone loss of the season last month. Kilgore was 11-for-14 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the line and added a game-high 10 rebounds for her third "double-double" of the season.

After a tightly contested opening half, the Comets shots better than 53 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes to secure their 10th win of the season. Kilgore had 15 points and six rebounds in the second half as UTD connected on 16-of-30 shots and was 11-of-13 from the foul line as a team after intermission.

UTD finished the first half on an 8-0 run to erase the Comets' only deficit of the game to grab a 34-27 lead at the break. UTD never gave up the lead in the second half, slowly extending its advantage. With 14:12 to play, the Comets extended its cushion to 18 points, 52-34, on a pair of free throws by Jo'Anna Davis and earned their first 20-point lead five minutes on a layup by Kilgore, 61-41. UTD would not lead by less than 17 points for the final nine minutes of the contest.

As a team, UTD was 27-of-60 (45%) from the field, connecting on 7-of-18 three-pointers (38.9%), and shot 73.3 percent (22-of-30) from the free-throw line. Christina Brosnahan added 14 points and Davis finished with 11 points off the bench to round out the Comets in double digits. Amber Brown led UTD with four assists. The Comets dominated the boards, out-rebounding ETBU, 50-34.

For ETBU (now 4-8, 2-6 ASC), Amanda Rucker finished with a team-high 14 points while Kendall Festervand and Jasmine Davis each had nine points. The Tigers shot just 34.3 percent (23-of-67) from the field, making just 5-of-21 three-pointers (23.8%), and shot 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from the foul line.

The Comets return home Thursday night as they host Mary Hardin-Baylor. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
