RICHARDSON, TX (02.05.15) - UT Dallas senior point guard
Madi Hess has been named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) and is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors later in the season.
COMPLETE ALL-DISTRICT TEAMA native of Austin, Hess has sparked the Comets women's basketball team to a 16-4 record so far this season and is averaging 12.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game - all team highs. Hess also boasts a 3.82 cumulative grade point average while majoring in emerging media and communications at UTD. She is currently shooting 45.6 percent from the field, hitting 47.4 shots from three-point range, and is an 84.6 percent free-throw shooter.
Hess currently leads the American Southwest Conference in assists, ranks fifth in steals and 11th in both scoring and rebounding. She was named the ASC's Player of the Week on Jan. 5. Hess is the only ASC basketball player, male or female, to earn Academic All-District honors this season. She is the third UTD student-athlete to be honored this year, joining women's soccer player Courtney Walton (first team) and volleyball player Michelle Toro (second team). Walton was also named Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, becoming UTD's eighth-ever Academic All-America honoree.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors by CoSIDA, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 GPA, participated in at least of 50 percent of team's games and have spent at least one full calendar year at their current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
