Box Score TUCSON, AZ (02.08.19) - The UT Dallas baseball team suffered its second straight loss to open the 2019 season Friday afternoon as the Comets dropped a close 5-4 decision to Whitman at the Cactus Classic.
Thomas Craig finished the game 4-for-5 from the plate with three runs scored and a pair of doubles, but it was not enough to lift the Comets to their first win of the season. Trailing 2-0 early, UTD answered with a run each in the 2nd and 4th frames before Blues plated three unearned runs in the 7th to take back the lead. The Comets got two runs back in the bottom of the frame and had the game-winning run at the plate in the 9th before the game came to a close.
Down 2-1 in the 2nd, the Comets got on the board after Craig's first double of the afternoon followed by an RBI single by
Patch Healy. Craig then got on base in the 4th with a one-out double and then tied the game when he scored off a two-out error by the WC pitcher.
After giving up three runs in the top of the 7th, Craig picked up an RBI with two outs in the bottom of the frame when he plated
Ryan Burciaga with a single. Craig scored his third run of the contest one batter later as the Blue centerfielder misplayed a fly ball by Healy.
The Comets (0-2) return to action Saturday when they face Pacific Lutheran in their third game at the Cactus Classic. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. (Central).Â
