Ryan Burciaga and
Thomas Craig have been named first team All-American Southwest Conference as the two Comets lead five members of the UT Dallas baseball team to be honored by the league on its all-conference teams, released Wednesday afternoon.
Burciaga and Craig were among the 15-played All-ASC first team while junior
Jacob Perry was listed third team and juniors
Logan McPherson and
Dylan Palmer were each tabbed honorable mention.
A second baseman out of Katy, Burciaga hit .358 over his senior season as he became the Comets' all-time leader in both RBI and total bases this spring. Burciaga finished the season with a team-high five triples while ranking second on the squad in both doubles (12) and home runs (7). He was also second on the team, and third in the ASC, with 53 RBI this spring and scored 39 runs. Burciaga becomes the first-ever four-year All-ASC performer for the Comets, also picking up first team honors as a sophomore. He was a third team All-ASC pick as a freshman and a second team selection last spring.
Craig, an outfielder from Austin, led the Comets and ranked seventh in the ASC with a .396 batting average this spring, leading the league in hits (72), RBI (56) and total bases (127) as a senior. He led the Comets, and ranked third in the ASC, with 48 runs scored while finishing with a team-best 18 doubles, placing him second in the league. He added a team-high 11 home runs this spring with three triples. Craig was a second team All-ASC pick as a junior for the Comets.
An outfielder from Mesquite, Perry closed his first season with the Comets with a .292 average along with 12 doubles, 47 runs scored and 18 RBI. Perry led the squad this spring with 14 stolen bases. McPherson, a right-hander from Springtown, was the only UTD pitcher to be recognized by the ASC this spring, ranking second in the league with six saves. Palmer, a designated hitter from Denton, was third on the squad with a .330 average while adding six doubles and one home run.
The Comets closed out the 2019 season with a 21-21 overall record and placed fifth in the ASC with a 12-9 league mark. UTD head coach
