COMMERCE, TX (04.11.21) - Four records were broken as the UT Dallas men's and women's track & field programs competed at the East Texas Invitational Saturday, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.
Freshman
Graeme Maclean set new school records in both the 800 and 1,500 while freshman
Muaaz Makda posted new program bests in the 200 and 400 as the Comets sent 10 men and three women to the meet.
Maclean placed sixth in the 1,500 with a new program-best mark of 4:00.21 while placing eighth in the 800 with a school record 1:57.74. Muaaz bested his own mark in both the 200 and 400, placing 20th in the 200 at 22.91 and eighth in the 400 at 50.47.
Justin Ardis also completed in the 1,500, placing 24th at 2:03.63.
Trent Sakakini was 13th in the 1,500 at 4:13.97 while
Griffin Davis placed 26th at 4:23.88.
The Comets had seven competitors in the 5,000-meter run with Sakakini leading the group in 17th place at 16:03.36. Davis placed 20th at 16:18.50,
Devan Bailey 22nd at 16:41.09,
Andres Uriegas 24th at 16:53.01,
John Joseph 28th at 17:24.55,
Kyle Rubens 31st at 17:48.78 and
Christian Kondor was 32nd at 17:53.10.
Finally for the men, UTD's 4x400-meter relay team of Makda,
Leon Valdman, Ardis and Sakakini, placed seventh with a time of 3:29.39.
For the women,
Rachel Kahler placed 21st in the 1,500 at 5:58.52 while
Anna Schaeffer and
Hannah Bennett both competed in the 5,000. Schaeffer placed 10th at 20:25.87 while Bennett was 11th at 20:34.23.
The Comets will wrap up the regular season Saturday, Apr. 17, at the War Hawks Classic, hosted by McMurry in Abilene.
