More Records Fall as Comet Close ASC Championships

JACKSON, MS (05.01.21) - The UT Dallas men's and women's track & field programs broke four records Saturday as the Comets wrapped up their first-ever trip to the American Southwest Conference Championships, hosted by Belhaven.

FINAL RESULTS

Graeme Maclean won league titles in both the 800- and 1,500-meter runs as the Comet men would close out the championships in seventh place with 58 points. Maclean broke his own UTD record in the 800 with a time of 1:57.01 while winning the 1,500 with a time of 4:07.72.

Muaaz Makda also scored points for the Comets with a seventh place finish in the 400-meter dash, breaking his own school record with a time of 50.00 in the event. Trent Sakakini added a fifth place finish in the 1,500 with a time of 4:14.67, adding points of his own. Kyle Rubens (4:46.97) placed 20th while Joel Guzman (4:52.66) was 22nd in the event.

In the first men's event of the day on Saturday, Sakakini and Griffin Davis went 3-4 in the 5,000-meter run. Sakakini finished the race in 15:56.40 while Davis, the ASC champion in the 10,000 Friday, ran 15:57.94. Andres Uriegas (16:25.68) finished ninth, Devan Bailey (16:28.00) 10th and John Joseph (17:53.96) 16th.

To close the championships, the Comets' 4x400-meter relay squad of Makda, Maclean, Sakakini and Justin Ardis placed fifth with a time of 3:28.74.

On the women's side, Anna Schaeffer and Hannah Bennett placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 5,000. Schaeffer broke her own UTD record with a time of 20:13.41 while Bennett recorded the second-best mark for the Comets this spring at 20:15.80.

In the 1,500, Elizabeth Chimitt added points for the Comets with a 5:21.63, breaking her own school record, to place fifth. Rachel Kahler placed 16th in the event at 5:58.71.

The Comet women placed seventh in the championships with 19 points.
