Track & Field Returns To Action at ACU, UT-Tyler

BULLARD, TX (03.19.22) - The UT Dallas men's and women's track team competed in a pair of events over the weekend, sending men's distance runners to the Wes Kittley Invitational Friday night before the rest of the squad competed at the Ice Breaker Classic on Saturday.

On Friday, Devan Bailey broke the Comets' school record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:20.72 at the Wes Kittley, hosted by Abilene Christian. Bailey finished fifth among the field 46 runners in the event. 

Also at the Wes Kittley, Andres Uriegas placed 14th in the 5K with a time of 15:43.52 while Matthew Chimitt placed 19th at 15:51.00 and Jayden Chambless 27th at 16:05.38.

In the Ice Breaker on Saturday, Muaaz Makda led the team in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.10 placing fourth. Makda also had an impressive outing in the 200-meter dash notching another record on their weekend for the Comets leading the team with a time of 22.86 placing sixth and Rami Habbas ran a 23.63. 

Justin Ardis ran a 2:04.66 in the 800m to lead the team. Mitch Carter ran a 4:17.74 in the 1500m. Nathaniel Brim came in at 4:27.26 and Gavin Thomas ran a 4:31.56.

In the men's field events, Dani Oyadiran led the Comets in the long jump with a school-record leap of 6.33 meters. Christian Pack was right behind him with a jump of 5.90 meters. Jackson Tucker threw the discus 35.07 meters placing eighth for the Comets.
 
For the women, Abbey Whittle set a pair of school records on Saturday. She recorded a time of 15.18 in the 100-meter dash and a 31.86 in the 200.
 
Rebecca Betanzo led the Comet women in the 800 with a time of 2:38.54 setting a UTD record. Rachel Kahler finished the same race in a time of 2:58.47. Betanzo also ran a 5:29.96 in the 1500-meter run and Kahler came in at 5:57.66.
 
Brynne Blackmar set a school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.52 meters for the Comet women in the high jump, placing fifth

The Comet men's and women's track team will travel to the East Texas Invitational Saturday, April 9 in Commerce, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.
