HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The #20 UT Dallas women's golf finished the DIII National Preview in second place against some of the best competition in the country at Mission Inn Resort & Club on Monday.
The Comets shot a 304-309=613 (+37), eight strokes behind #7 Redlands. UTD held off #13 Washington and Lee (+39), #10 Washington-St. Louis (+39), #4 Carnegie Mellon (+41) and #3 Methodist (+41). Nine of the 18 teams in the tournament are ranked in the Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll.Â
Sophomore
Sofia Trevino tied for third with a 76-72=148 (+4), only two shots behind the medalist. She recorded the best round of her career on Monday, shooting an even 72 with five birdies. Trevino's round was the eighth best in program history and her total score was tied for fourth.
Senior
Karen Lee tied for eighth with a 75-75=150 (+6), making a trio of birdies in the final round. Fell senior
Karen Alvarez was tied for 23rd with a 74-82=156 and junior
Maddy Vilven tied for 33rd at 79-80=159.
UTD's team score was tied for the third-best 36-hole total in program history.Â
The Comets will be off until October 4 when they competed at the Tempest Intercollegiate in Gladewater, Texas.
