NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - UT Dallas wrapped up the 2022-23 campaign with a 14th place finish at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club on Friday.
The Comets finished with a 304-287-298-299=1,188 for a score of 36 over par. Carnegie Mellon won the team title with a -1 1,151. UTD tied the 2003 team for the best finish at the national tournament, however there were 43 squads in this year's field, compared to 23 teams 20 years ago.
Sophomore
Daniel Shofner tied for 28th place with a 75-70-75-73=293 (+5) and freshman
Tyler Durden shot a 75-71-80-71=295 (+7).Â
Sophomore
Andrew Chow tied for 64th with a 77-72-76-76=301 (+13) and graduate student
Joseph Park was tied for 72nd, shooting a 78-77-70-78=303 (+15).
As a team, the Comets were tied for ninth with 214 pars in the tournament with 52 birdies. Under first year head coach
Cole Sondgeroth, UTD set the school record with 358 birdies on the year.
Shofner led the Comets with 14 birdies in the tournament, adding to his school record for a total of 79 this season.
