RICHARDSON, Texas - UT Dallas senior women's golfer
Karen Alvarez was named the College Sports Communicators Division III At-Large Academic All-America of the Year on Thursday.
She is just the fifth student-athlete in American Southwest Conference history to be selected as Academic All-America of the Year.
Alvarez, from Katy, Texas, was a WGCA All-American Honorable Mention, the American Southwest Conference Co-Golfer of the Year, the ASC Championship Individual Medalist and the UTD Female Athlete of the Year in 2022-23. She averaged 76.26 shots with a low round of 69 and won three tournaments with four more top three finishes. Alvarez won the Elite 90 Award at the NCAA Championship for the third time. She was ranked #34 in the nation by Golfstat and led UTD to a conference title for the second time in three seasons.
Alvarez also neared Academic All-America First Team honors for the second consecutive season and was an ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor recipient.Â
Alvarez graduated UT Dallas with a 4.00 and a degree in Marketing.
