BROWNWOOD, Texas - The #13 UT Dallas women's golf team won its third American Southwest Conference Championship in four seasons with a record-setting performance at The Hideout Golf Club Tuesday.
The Comets, under second-year head coach
Cole Sondgeroth, claimed its second straight title with a three-round 296-297-301=894 (+30). They topped Mary Hardin-Baylor (897/+33) who were followed by LeTourneau (954/+90), Hardin-Simmons (954/+90), Concordia Texas (969/+105), UC Santa Cruz (996/+132), East Texas Baptist (1,083/+219) and McMurry (1,137/+273).
UTD claims the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky. May 21-24.
Junior
Sofia Trevino took medalist honors with an ASC-record 54-hole score 69-72-72=213 (-3). She made 12 birdies and 34 pars over three three days.Â
Graduate student
Karen Lee made the All-Tournament Team with a fourth-place finish. She shot a 73-77-76=226 (+10), converting nine birdies and 30 pars. Sophomore
Mia Gaboriau was eighth at 76-81-73=230 (+14). Senior
Maddy Vilven shot a 79-73-80=232 (+16) and made 10 birdies for an 11th place finish. Sophomore
Shreya Krishnan was just behind with a 78-75-80=233 (+17), tying for 12th.
Trevino won the tournament by nine strokes and she broke the school three-round total by six shots. As a team, UTD broke the ASC 54-hole record by 20 shots, a mark they set last season. The 894 was also the lowest three-round score in program history.
