GEORGETOWN, Texas - The UT Dallas track & field teams broke five school records in the first outdoor meet of the season - the CenTex Invite at Southwestern University Track.
The Comet women broke four records, led by freshman
Rowen Hughes in both hurdle events. She placed second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:07.14, breaking last season's mark by 3.62 seconds. Hughes also finished third in the 100 hurdles, breaking the old mark by .46 seconds in 15.81.
The 4x100 relay team of
Tia Billingsly,
Randi Beckham,
Paige Thomas and
Mariah Gibson took third in 49.30 seconds, breaking the old mark by .05 seconds.
Rhiana Johnson,
Sasha Simons,
Catriona Walker and Beckham shattered the previous 4x400 record by 6.08 seconds in 4:07.66, finishing second.
For the men, sophomore
Zachary Carroll posted a pair of sixth place finishes. In the javelin, he broke a three-year old school record by more than 14 feet with a throw of 44.96 meters (147 ft.-6 in.). Carroll also had a long jump of 6.32 meters (20 ft.-8.75 in.).
Freshman
Nicholas Holland was a third place finish in 1:57.01 in the 800 meters.
