PITTSBURG, Kan. - The UT Dallas track & field teams combined to break five more records on Saturday on the second day of the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic Saturday. The tally brings the weekend total to 11 new school records.
The Comet women set three new marks on day two. Sophomore
Alexia Callahan shattered the 3,000-meter record by 2:22 with a time of 11:13.07.
Bharvi Varu ran the mile in 5:33.66, shaving 9.5 seconds off the old mark.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Nahia Kelley,
Abby Ellisor,
Randi Beckham and
E'Mon Mason also set a new school record with a time of 4:02.34, taking 4.65 seconds off the previous best mark.
Freshman
Grace Pritchard finished 16th with a triple jump of 10.86 meters (35 ft.-8 in.).
On the men's side, sophomore
Alex Bozhilov broke the 3,000-meter record by 1:31. He placed ninth in 8:35.07 in the event.
Rafe Premo,
Blake Rippy,
Franklin Perez and
Liam Simmons set a new 4x400 relay school record in 3:19.94.
Premo, a senior also ran the 400-meter dash in 51.41 seconds. Sophomore
Nicholas Holland had a time of 2:01.40 in the 800.
The Gorilla Classic wraps up the indoor season for the Comets. They begin the outdoor portion of the schedule at the TCU Alumni Invite in Fort Worth on March 20.
