RICHARDSON, Texas - UT Dallas junior David Dean has been selected as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Central Region Pitcher of the Week on Thursday. 

Dean, a left-hander from Owasso, Texas, became the first pitcher to defeat first-place St. Mary's this season as he tossed seven scoreless innings on the road in the series opener. Dean scattered three hits and struck out four batters. The Rattlers, who are 9-1, hit just .125 off Dean. He retired 11 consecutive batters between the first and fifth innings. He also had a three-up, three-down seventh. Dean allowed just one batter to reach third base in the 4-0 game. He was also selected as the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week.

The Comets will host Eastern New Mexico in a four-game series beginning Friday at 1 p.m.
