Brooke Yount are in second and tied for fourth place, respectively, after the first 36 holes of the Lone Star Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club on Monday.
The Comets, playing in the LSC for the first time, sit in sixth place out of 13 squads on day. All five teams they trail are ranked in the national top 30. UTD shot a 299-311=610 (+34) on Monday.
Seventh-ranked UT Tyler and #2 DBU (583/+7) are tied for the team lead, followed by #27 West Texas A&M (588/+12), #23 Midwestern State (589/+13), #16 St. Mary's (593/+17) and UTD.
Porras fired a 69-72=141 (-3) and is one shot off the individual leader - #24 Martha Laremark of UTT (140/-4). Gracie Grant, ranked #17 from DBU, is in third with at 142/-2. Yount shot a 75-68=143 (-1) and is tied with #2 Ella Cheek of DBU and #13 Taylor Wiczek of St. Mary's.
Porras' 141 is tied for the second-best 36-hole tally in program history. She made five birdies on the day, including three in the first round with 15 pars.
Yount's 68 in round two is tied for the second-best 18-hole score in school history. She bogeyed the second hole of the round, then went to shoot five-under the rest of the way with three birdies and an eagle, which was the fourth of the season and broke the Comet career record.
Freshman
Molly Woods tied for 16th with a 72-77=149 (+5) with four birdies.
The Comets will wrap up stroke play on Tuesday with 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m.
