ROCKWALL, Texas - The UT Dallas men's golf team finished in eighth place in the program's first Lone Star Conference Championship at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club on Tuesday.
Out of the 12 teams, all seven squads ahead of the Comets were ranked in the top 50 nationally. UTD shot a 304-302-312=918.
Junior
Hunter Wolfinger led the Comets by tying for 13th place. He recorded a 72-77-77=226 (+10) with nine birdies. Junior
Nick Slobbe had a 78-73-79=230 (+14) with four birdies, tying for 31st. Freshman
Banks Tessier posted a 77-75-81=233 (+17)with seven birdies and tied for 39th.
Greg Lewis subbed into the lineup for the third round and shot a 79 (+7) with two birdies.
Senior
Tyler Durden finished out his historic career with an 81-77-77=235 (+19) and seven birdies for the tournament. He finished as the Comets' all-time leader in birdies (295), rounds played (100) and counting scores (85). Durden also broke the season records for birdies (88) and counting scores (25). Durden and Tessier tied for a new single-season record with 27 rounds played this year.
As a team, the Comets, coached by
Cole Sondgeroth, broke the record for most rounds played at 27.
