WEST POINT, Miss. - The UT Dallas men's golf team kicked off the 2026-27 campaign with a spectacular 36-hole performance on the first day of the Dunning Invitational at Mossy Oak Golf Club on Monday.
The Comets sit in first place after two rounds, shooting 279-280=559 (-17). They lead the 11-team field by seven shots over Valdosta State (566/-10), followed by host Delta State (568/-8) and Mississippi Christian (574/-2). UTD's opening round score of 279 was tied for the eighth-best in program history, while the 559 was the third-lowest 36-hole score.
Freshman
Abhay Duggal made a big splash in his collegiate debut. He shot 67-70=137 (-7) with 11 birdies and trailed the leader by one stroke. Duggal's 137 is tied for the fifth-best 36-hole score in Comet history.
Senior
Hunter Wolfinger is 10th with a 74-68=142 (-4) and seven birdies. His second round featured 14 pars and four birdies.
Greg Lewis ended up even after a 77-67=144 and eight birdies. Freshman
Drew McSpadden is tied for 18th at 70-75=145 (+1) and seven birdies and
Gabe Haslauer rounded out the scoring after compiling a 68-78=145 (+2) and seven birdies.
As a team, the Comets made 40 birdies on the day to lead the tournament.
UTD will wrap up the event with 18 holes at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
