WEST POINT, Miss. - The UT Dallas men's golf team wrapped up the first tournament of the season by placing second at the Dunning Invitational at Mossy Oak Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Comets shot a 279-280-294=853 (-11), finishing five shots behind Valdosta State (848/-16). UTD beat out host Delta State (864/E), Miles (867/+3) and seven other teams.Â
Their 54-hole score of 853 was the fourth-lowest in school history. The Comets also led all teams with 53 birdies in the tournament.
Abhay Duggal was UTD's top finisher in seventh place, shooting 67-70-76=213 (-3) with 14 birdies.
Greg Lewis took eighth place with 10 birdies and a 77-67-71=215 (-1).Â
Senior
Hunter Wolfinger and freshman
Drew McSpadden tied for 14th place with a 217 (+1). McSpadden sank 12 birdies overall and Wolfinger recorded nine.
Gabe Haslauer also made an eagle in round three.
The Comets will compete in the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya in Akumal, Mexico, beginning Monday, September 28.
