RICHARDSON, Texas - The league announced Tuesday that first-year libero Avery Gray was named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week.

Gray, from Lucas, Texas, averaged 6.00 digs per set as the Comets won two road matches to open conference play. She started the weekend with 10 digs in a sweep at Oklahoma Christian on Friday. Gray then had 32 digs, an average of 8.00 per set, with three aces in a four-set victory at Cameron on Saturday.

UTD will play at home on Saturday against UT Tyler at 2 p.m. in the I-20 Showdown and toy toss match.
