Box Score RICHARDSON, TX - The UT Dallas men's basketball team wasted little time taking care of the Austin College Kangaroos in the season opener for both teams, jumping out to a big lead and cruising to an 85-64 win Monday night.
The Comets scored 14 of the first 19 points in the game and held a comfortable 41-24 lead at halftime. Before Coach
Terry Butterfield began clearing the bench with about six minutes left in the contest, UTD had a 32-point lead at 80-48. The closest AC could get in the second half was 11 points at 45-34 with 15:14 remaining after a 7-0 run. But UTD answered with a 23-8 run of its own and left little doubt.
All 16 players on the Comet roster got time on the floor as UTD shot 56.3 percent for the game, including a 61.9 percent showing in the second half.
Ernie Lowery led the Comets with 14 points while
Jordan Eppink and
Brandon Greene pitched in 11 apiece; but UTD had 10 other players get into the scoring column. The Comets nailed 12 three-pointers during the game, including two each from Lowery, Eppink, and sophomore
Sean Poe.
