ABILENE, TX - The UT Dallas women's soccer team found itself in much too familiar territory at the end of the American Southwest Conference championship game Sunday afternoon - watching the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls walk off its own field with the ASC championship trophy for the sixth straight year.

UTD battled the ASC powerhouse Cowgirls in the championship game for the fourth time in the last five years, but could not overcome a pair of early HSU goals on their way to a 2-0 loss.

HSU got goals from Morgan Lloyd and Allyson Ray in the game's first 12 minutes, both off assists by Amy Kuykendall; and despite a furious second-half rush, the Comets could not rally their way back into the match.

UTD (14-4-3) was victimized in the first half by a strong southerly breeze that kept UTD from advancing the ball to the Cowgirl side of the field. HSU held a 15-3 shot advantage at halftime and UTD managed only one shot on goal.

In the second half, though, the Comets got the wind at their backs and were able to mount multiple offensive charges. UTD got off a 12-1 shot advantage in the second period and forced HSU goalkeeper into making six saves.

The game marked the end of the UTD careers for two seniors, Amanda Kallus and Stephanie Ross; but it marked the beginning for a talented freshman class that Coach John Antonisse singled out in his post-game comments. First-year players Leah Bowyer and Katie Gieger were both named to the all-tournament team along with junior Emily George.

HSU (15-3-3) earns the ASC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III national tournament with the win.
